Types of Stage Lighting

Different lighting arrangements

Front lights
The front lights are positioned in front of the stage, facing the actors. If backlighting isn't used in conjunction with them, they can give the stage a flat appearance, even though this is the first port of call for directionality and making individuals visible.
Front lighting works well with moving heads and par cans. The front of the stage can be made more dynamic with moving head bars. Here, spotlights are fantastic as well! 

Backlighting
Backlighting, which sits behind the performers at the back of the stage, helps to fill out the stage's dimensions. For par cans, this is the best position, and it can take advantage of several vertical positions simultaneously.

Downlighting
Downlighting can help fill up vertical spaces because it emerges from above the stage. This can help complete a feeling of distance during performances because we're used to lighting coming from above the source of light.

Side and high-side lighting
This last detail might not always be required. Direct side lighting can make performers' profiles stand out more, although elevated side lighting at a 45-degree angle is usually preferred. For this use, spotlights and profiles are perfect.
